Terms and conditions

The users agree to the following terms and conditions when using Transfercar.co.nz.

All users
  1. Transfercar is a facilitator between vehicle owners in need of relocating vehicles and relocation drivers.
  2. Transfercar does not take any responsibility for loss or damage to vehicle owner or cost or fines applying to Relocation drivers relocating a particular relocation vehicle.
  3. Transfercar does not accept any liabilities for unavailability in case Vehicle owner does not choose to supply the relocation vehicle to the Relocation Driver. Any dispute in that matter has to be solved directly between Vehicle owner and Relocation driver.
  4. It is not permitted under any circumstances for vehicle owner to try to facilitate contact directly to relocation drivers to avoid paying the appropriate fee to Transfercar. Examples of this are by adding phone numbers, logo, email address to the common listing details
  5. Both Vehicle owners and Relocation drivers are required to comply with these terms or conditions or any future changes.
  6. Transfercar makes its best effort to ensure all information on the website is accurate and up-to-date. However, Transfercar cannot and does not guarantee that errors do not occur from time to time.
  7. Transfercar reserves the right to validate all information provided to Transfercar by Vehicle owners and Relocation drivers.
  8. Transfercar reserves the right to change information published on the site at any time.
Vehicle owner
  1. It is free for Vehicle owner to list relocation vehicles at Transfercar's website.
  2. A fee applies to the Vehicle owners when they accept a request from a Relocation driver.
  3. Vehicle owner can at any time withdraw any listed relocation vehicles as long as no Relocation driver has been accepted.
  4. Vehicle owner cannot list vehicles on behalf of other vehicle owners.
Vehicle Driver

RENTAL CHARGES: $5.00 Per Day - up to the minimum days indicated in the table below. The maximum kilometres allowed are as per the table below with plus an extra 550 kilometres. (For example Adl – Asp is a minimum of 4 days, and the maximum kilometres allowed are 1540 + 550 = 2090). Travel exceeding the maximum allowance per rental will be charged at 55 cents per kilometre. Extra days may be available and can be requested at the time of

BOOKING (or Check out) by asking our rental staff. Extra days are strictly subject to availability, and will be charged at a fixed rate of $75 p/day (to max day limit); other costs such as Excess Reduction etc are additional (please note maximum days in table below). Additional days provide 250 free kms per day (only).thl Rentals welcome you to share fuel expenses with your fellow travellers; however, it is illegal to charge them a fare.

DRIVERS LICENCE: One of the following must be provided at the time of collection:1. A Valid, Full Australian driving licence.2. A valid, Full Domestic licence, accompanied by an International driver’s permit AND passport. See ‘Rental Agreement, Terms and Conditions’ for further information.DAILY HIRE: Rates are based on a calendar day (not 24 hour periods). Minimum rental days depend on the route and scheduling requirements. Vehicles come with basic living equipment such as, linen, cutlery & crockery. There is no refund for unused days.

FUEL ALLOWANCE: No monies will be forthcoming without accompanied receipts clearly stating the amount & type of fuel purchased (tax invoice required), note eftpos and credit card receipts are not accepted. For Tasmanian relocations, receipts can also be for a standard ferry seat and airfare (one person only). Any expense above the allowance offered is at the renters cost. Please ensure that any Fuel allowance given is clearly marked on the Rental Agreement, prior to departure and initialled by a thl staff member.

PAYMENT: Cash, EFTPOS, Visa, MasterCard, and Bankcard only will be accepted for rental and protection package charges. (No CASH or AMEX Cards will be accepted for Security Deposit Payments). Please note that thl does not take any responsibility for any currency fluctuations in exchange rates.

SECURITY DEPOSIT: $1000 payable by CREDIT CARD ONLY (No Cash or AMEX Bond permitted) and all rental costs are payable at time of booking. The Credit Card will be processed and credited back at the end of the rental providing the vehicle is returned on time, undamaged and with the fuel tank and gas bottle full (please note a 2% surcharge on all Credit Card payments applies). A $220 cleaning fee will be charged if the vehicle is returned in a dirty condition and will also be charged if the toilet and wastewater tank (if applicable) have not been emptied.

CANCELLATION FEES: There is a $50.00 fee payable to thl for any relocation that is cancelled once confirmed or not collected on the due date. Please note the vehicle model booked or Booking may change prior to departure or be cancelled at thl’s discretion, even on the day of travel.

MAX NUMBER OF PASSENGERS: You are not permitted to carry more passengers than the legal registration of the vehicle indicates.

PICK UP AND DROP OFF TIME: All relocations must be collected between 1000hrs and1500 hrs. Return time on the last day is 1500 hrs, and vehicles not returned by this time will incur a late fee of $150. Any vehicle that is not returned by 1600hrs on the last day the late fee incurred will be $1000.

PROPERTY DAMAGE: Personal property is not covered by our excess reduction. All vehicles are insured for damage to the vehicle and to the property of a Third Party. Overhead and Underbody damage are not covered by any Excess reduction options and you are responsible for the first $1000 of each claim. Tyres and Windscreen are not covered (except where BP2 is purchased. See Excess Reduction Options below). The excess is applicable regardless of who is at fault and applies in respect of each claim, not per rental.

SINGLE VEHICLE ROLLOVER: Excess Reduction does not cover single vehicle rollovers. The hirer will be liable for up to $5000 in the event of such an accident occurring. A single vehicle roll over may include, but is not limited to, a vehicle that has rolled, tipped or fallen over and this has caused damage to the side and/or roof areas of the vehicle.All insurance cover will be made void if Damage caused to the vehicle because total load (kg) has exceeded recommended load as stated in vehicle manual. Vehicles are not to be used for the purpose of transporting and haulage of goods other than what might be reasonably expected of a leisure rental.

EXCESS REDUCTION OPTIONS:BP1: $12 p/day you can reduce the standard excess from $1000 per claim to $500 for each claimBP2: $18 p/day can reduce your excess to $100 and covers one windscreen and one tyre.Please ask our rental staff for any new service options that may be available, such as Pre-purchase Gas. Note PCO2 (premium cover option) is not available with relocations nor is PPF (pre purchase fuel).

EXCESS REDUCTION EXCLUSIONS: In addition to the ‘Rental Agreement, Terms and Conditions’: UNSEALED ROADS: Vehicles are not allowed to travel on unsealed roads or the Burke & Gulf developmental roads in QLD. Full costs up to $5000 will be charged for any Water Damage or damage occurring on these Roads. OVERHEAD AND UNDERBODY DAMAGE: such damage will result in the Full excess ($1,000) being taken. NIGHT DRIVING is not recommended, full costs up to $5000 will be charged for any damage caused whilst driving at night (after sunset and before sunrise).ACCIDENTS: Must be reported immediately to the nearest branch or after hours on 1800 331 454. An Accident Report must be completed on return of the vehicle. Please ensure you obtain a police report if applicable and third party details

BREACH OF CONTRACT: Please read the Britz ‘‘Rental Agreement, Terms and Conditions’’ very carefully and ensure that all points are clear before signing. Your signature binds you to the thl ‘Rental Agreement, Terms and Conditions’ conditions. Should there be any variance between the thl standard ‘Rental Agreement, Terms and Conditions’ and this ‘For Your Information’ document, this (for your information) document will supersede the standard conditions.

MECHANICAL BREAKDOWN: You may spend up to $100 for minor repairs or oil. For larger repairs, please phone the nearest Branch for authorisation. Receipts must be presented for reimbursement. thl Rentals is not liable for any incidental costs (accommodation, transportation) incurred by the renter and passengers as a result of a breakdown or accident. thl staff will however endeavour to assist where and if possible to do so.

We don't charge anything for this. How can it be free? Here in Australia we call it relocating but overseas the concept is called driveaway or one way hire. Rental car or camper van companies need to move cars between their branches all the time. They can either use expensive trucks or trains or they can let you drive it for free. The rental operators win, you win. So how do we make money on this? Transfercar is charging a small fee to the rental operators for each successful relocation. We are constantly looking for more relocation drivers. Families, students, backpackers, event-goers, seniors or other travellers are all welcome. You need to be over 18 and have a full driver's license. The most popular routes are between Adelaide, Alice Springs, Brisbane, Cairns, Darwin and Perth to Sydney and Melbourne, but other locations are listed all the time. Most cars comes with free insurance. A free tank of fuel and other expenses covered is not unusual either. The website is updated daily with free rental car deals and you can sign up to our email notifications, Facebook page, Twitter profile or our Blog to be notified when new hire cars, campers and motorhomes are added to the site.
